The Norwood Community Policing Forum in Johannesburg is stepping up efforts to curb the consumption of sodas and codeine.

The #LeanOnMe campaign aims to sensitize the community about the impact of codeine abuse among young people.

Mongi Maphipha, a member of the campaign’s steering committee, says most parents don’t even know what Lean is.

“One of the symptoms of lean is laziness. Someone doesn’t want to do anything, just lean on something and that’s what they want. They don’t want to do anything. It affects them. “I do,” says Maphipha. ..

Maphipha added that the campaign also includes parents.

“We’re basically trying to make parents and educators aware, because we’re trying to make parents aware of the tragedy of cough syrup addiction and misuse. Now most kids go to school. Is not.”
